How to use AI safely

Protect your privacy and money, check facts, and spot AI-powered scams like voice clones and fake videos.

1. Never share these with any AI tool

  • OTPs, passwords, UPI PIN or card CVV
  • Full Aadhaar, PAN or bank account numbers
  • Other people's private information or photos without permission
  • Confidential office or client documents

2. Check facts before you act

AI can sound confident and still be wrong. For health, money, law, exams and government schemes, confirm on official websites or with a professional.

3. Watch out for AI-powered scams

  • Voice clones: a call that sounds like a relative asking for urgent money. Hang up and call them back on their known number.
  • Fake videos (deepfakes): celebrities “recommending” investments or apps. Real investment advice doesn't arrive through ads promising guaranteed returns.
  • “Digital arrest” calls: police, CBI or customs never arrest anyone over a video call or ask for money to “clear your name”.
  • Fake AI apps: download apps only from official stores, and check the developer name.

4. If you've been cheated

  • Call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 immediately — reporting quickly improves the chance of stopping the money.
  • Report online at cybercrime.gov.in.
  • Call your bank to block cards or accounts.
  • Report suspected fraud calls and messages (even if you didn't lose money) through Chakshu on sancharsaathi.gov.in.

5. Children and AI

Most AI apps require users to be 13 or older. Sit with younger children, use AI for learning and stories, and teach them never to share personal details.
